it's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World was torn apart by the critics just as much as spielberg's 1941. they thought it was too big and not funny. it's almost as if they feel that it's obscene that a comedy should have this big of a canvas and should be this expensive. very same criticism like towards Isthar or Blues Brothers. but the critics were wrong about it. it's just one of the great epics that folds you up in its story in a way that most epics don't. really, it's truly great.
