Ian McKellen urodził się 25 maja 1939 r. w Burnley w Anglii. Skończył Uniwersytet w Cambridge na wydziale literatury angielskiej. Zadebiutował w 1961 roku w Belgrade Theatre w Coventry. Zagrał w wielu sztukach, m.in. "Wiśniowy Sad", "Wujaszek Wania", "Edward II", "Wróg ludu". Grał dla Royal Shakespeare Company i Royal National Theatre w Londynie. Wytępował również w

Inteligentny gość, aktor nie najlepszy ale przynajmniej potrafi się do tego przyznać... Takich ludzi trzeba cenić. Polecam jego wywiad dla telewizji TCM. Brawo dla takich ludzi.

Ian McKellen to wspaniały aktor ale jako człowiek stroi cholerne fochy.Ja tam rozumiem że walczy o prawa gejów, no ale po cholerę mówi że wyrywa kartki z Bibli!Poza tym co do hobbita też strzelił mocnego focha typu: "nie wyobrażam sobie by ktoś Gandalfa mógł zagrać lepiej ode ...
