Johnny Cash powszechnie znany jest jako najwybitniejszy muzyk country, co nie jest do końca prawdą ze względu na bogactwo jego muzycznego dorobku. Zaczynał w 1955 roku w wytwórni Sun Records wraz z Elvisem Presleyem, Carlem Perkinsem, Jerrym Lee Lewisem i - nieco później - Royem Orbisonem. W 1958 roku podpisał kontrakt z wytwórnią Columbia, z którą związany był aż do 1986 roku. Repertuar jego twórczości rozciąga się od country, poprzez rock and rolla (którego uważany jest za współtwórcę), folk, po rock. Inspirował przez lata rzesze muzyków, jak Boba Dylana, Bruce'a Springsteena, U2 (z którymi współpracował przy albumie "Zooropa"). W latach 1968-1969 zasłynął serią koncertów w więzieniach, z których dwa wydane zostały na płytach: "At Folsom Prison" i "At San Quentin". Walczył również o prawa amerykańskich Indian, czego dowodem jest album "Bitter Tears: Ballads of the American Indian" z 1964 roku. W 1959 roku wydał jeden z pierwszych albumów konceptualnych - "Songs of Our Soil". Od 1993 roku związany był z wytwórnią American Recordings Ricka Rubina (producenta hard rockowego i rap), dzięki czemu znów zwrócił na siebie uwagę młodszej publiczności. Jest laureatem 19 nagród Grammy (ostatnia przyznana pośmiertnie w roku 2008) i wielu innych.

Odkad uslyszalem Folsom prison blues nie moge oderwac sie od jego muzyki!!!
Albo cover NIN - hurt. Best o f the best!!! brawa dla autora krotkiej notki o Cashu za to ze nie nazwal go 100 %-owym muzykiem country jak okreslaja go ludzie! pozdrawiam :)

Myślę, że Johnny byłby dumny, że film będący jego biografią zbiera nagrody. No i oczywiście Joaquin, odtwórca Johna =)
