szukałam i znalazłam dwa wyjaśnienia:
1.
"In the movie it's said several times that the trolls can smell the blood of christians. This is a reference the the old norwegian fairytales where the trolls often would say "I smell christian mans blood!" when they encountered humans. This is the only "magical" abilety the trolls have, that's made it from the fairytalles inn to the movie."
2.
"The old folktales would often have a troll declare that he could "smell the blood of a Christian man". This is a poetic way of saying he could smell a human nearby. The film takes this literally, to the bewilderment of those not familiar with Scandinavian folklore."

Nie znam dokładnie legendy ,ale wiem na pewno ,że wiąże się ta nienawiść trolli do chrześcijan z Św Olafem,który wprowadzał w Norwegii chrześcijaństwo, coś tam się trollom nie spodobało,że zaczęły za nim kamieniami rzucać ,i od tego czasu mszczą się na każdym chrześcijaninie.
Nie wiem dokładnie co i jak ,ale mniej więcej;p
