After winning the best actress award in Cannes for “Maps to the Stars,” Julianne Moore was considered a strong bet in this year’s Oscar race for her turn as a washed-up star in the David Cronenberg drama. But the overdue actress, who has been nominated for four Academy Awards without winning, could be sitting out of this year’s awards season.

In a deal that closed last week, Focus World picked up U.S. distribution rights to the Cronenberg drama from Canadian outfit eOne, sources tell Variety exclusively. “Maps to the Star’s” won’t premiere stateside until early 2015.

Focus World is the alternative distribution division of Focus Features, and it hasn’t been decided if the drama will be released on VOD or if it will play in theaters domestically or some combination thereof. “Maps” could get an Oscar qualifying theatrical release at the end of 2014, so that it would at least be eligible for Academy Awards nominations, according to one individual with knowledge, but a movie with that kind of strategy can sometimes get lost amidst the slew of December contenders.

“Maps to the Stars” will screen this month at the Toronto International and New York Film Festivals, which are traditionally launching pads for Oscar contenders. On September 9, Moore is scheduled to appear at a cocktail event following a screening of the film at Toronto.

Maps to the Stars w/Julianne Moore & # picked up by Focus World for US distro in 2015 reports@http://variety.com/2014/film/fest

Dear Focus World, please don’t pull # from # like Lionsgate did with Maggie. Love, me.

(A reply back to RPWW regarding if he believes the film will be pulled) @ I don’t think it will be. The timing isn’t the same based on release date strategy.

It goes without saying that the Focus World deal removes #, its filmmakers, & cast from awards season consideration this year.

The only way # could still be eligible for this year’s awards is if it gets an Oscar-qualifying run end of December. It’s possible.

If # plays at least 7 consecutive days at a theater in Los Angeles County by Dec 31 at midnight it will be eligble for the next Oscars.

I doubt # will be pulled from # esp since it’s got Canadian pedigree & is a hi-profile Gala. But Lionsgate’s decision is a mystery.

Could, can i possibly jakos mnie nie przekonuja.

No tylko problem jest taki drogi Maćku, że decyzje o nominacjach są podejmowane wcześniej (;

<ponawiam temat> Premiera w lutym 2015, czyli nici z Oscara dla Moore?
