I rate the film "Spotkanie przy grach" ("Spieleabend") at 6.5/10. This film is really very funny. In addition, it is very well shot, the scenes are artistic and pretty, the lighting is unobtrusive, the sound is clear and the editing allows the jokes to ring out. There is constantly something going on in the film and time passes at a rocket pace. Of course - we generally know from the start what's going to happen and how it's going to end, but there are a few twists and turns along the way, so there's some surprises. I really like how even the unexciting scenes are beautifully shot, such as the initial parrot release. As befits a comedy, some scenes, movements or facial expressions are done very thickly, but who won't laugh at Alex's clownishness or the deadly seriousness of Fieper's neighbour? The storytelling in this film is very colloquial, it's really enjoyable to watch, I burst out laughing many times. And again: banal scenes like "marmalade bread" or "what a cockatoo sounds like" can make you laugh quite a lot. I don't know the German actors very well, but Dennis Mojen in the lead role is great. Okay... Then, if the film is so good, why did it only get a 6.5 out of 10 from me. Well, there are a few problems. Here and there the pace of the film is so fast that something gets lost, such as Alex suddenly having a special net to catch birds. The nudity in the ping-pong scene is completely unnecessary and irritating and the ''dick'' jokes are deeply embarrassing, even for Netflix. The film also suffers from the common cinematic malady that the closer you get to the end the worse it gets, as the final scene in the zoo is mostly pointless. And yet, what irritates me is the overemphasis on the dressed-up rivalry over Pia. Unfortunately, Pia is the weakest link in this film: neither beautiful, nor graceful, nor clever, nor alluring, nor nice, nor sexy, nor charming... In general, quite banal, and sometimes repulsive. So why should reasonably intelligent men fight a fierce war over her, which she herself instigated? Maybe if the central character had been a Mexican nanny, it would have made more sense, as she does have a few positives. Anyway, it's not bad: the film is very well made, very easy to watch, genuinely funny in many places, time passes at a dizzying pace and there is no room for boredom. And that it makes no sense in a few places, well, that's forgivable. Best regards to you, your Profesor Jan Film.
