Charlie's world shifts when she learns that the mysterious 'Joseph' is really an intelligence officer named Gadi Becker. Becker delivers Charlie to his superior Kurtz, and the wily spymaster offers her the role of a lifetime in the 'theatre of the real'; to infiltrate a dangerous militia cell. Kurtz masterfully coordinates Charlie's recruitment. He reveals her secrets, challenging her passionately held political views and the stories she tells about her father and her past. Having exposed her lies, Kurtz is far from displeased; Charlie's imagination and versatility as a performer make her perfect for the role Kurtz has in mind. After Charlie's gruelling night of questioning, Becker gently urges Charlie to commit to the role and the operation. Charlie is drawn to the opportunity to fulfil her potential and make a difference, but she is also increasingly beguiled and confused by this man, desperate to understand who he really is. Kurtz holds one of the perpetrators of the German bombing captive; a Palestinian named Michel. Meanwhile, Becker plays Michel's persona with Charlie, in order to create the appearance of a love affair between the revolutionary and the actress. Becker teaches Charlie the intimate details of Michel's life and together they leave a pan-European paper trail of this fictional romance. Through this elaborate subterfuge, Kurtz's team hope to flush out the key players that Michel works for. When Charlie proves herself an able pupil, Becker offers her a chance to show her true commitment to their cause, but Kurtz realises that Michel is leading them into a trap.
