The Sliders land in a Los Angeles that seems too clean and friendly. Newspapers only extol the virtues of "The Oracle," and discredit the "Radical Rationalists." The three Sliders, however, were secretly observed landing by Cadmus, Chief Counselor of the Oracle Center. Deciding to find out more about the Oracle, the Sliders enter an assembly, and Maggie is immediately befriended by Jane, a "welcomer" with the Center. She points out the leaders, Cadmus and the Chief Oracle, Gareth. Jane tells them that they will be fortunate enough to watch four welcomers being sent to the Other Side. Guided by the sinister Enforcers, the welcomers are led into a chamber. There is a flash of light, and they are gone.
