Zdjęcia do filmu realizowano we wsiach Nowa Sucha i Pierzchały (gmina Liw), wzniesieniu Sowia Góra położonym niedaleko miejscowości Jarnice oraz Warszawie (Polska).
Zdjęcia (zrealizowane w najnowszej technice cyfrowej High Definition, 36 dni zdjęciowych) wykonano we wrześniu i październiku 2002 roku głównie na terenie Muzeum Architektury Drewnianej w Nowej Suchej, gdzie ekipa znalazła doskonałe warunki do pracy dzięki uprzejmości jego twórcy, pana profesora Marka Kwiatkowskiego.
Mimo umieszczenia nazwisk w czołówce - Gerard Brach i Lud Bondy - nie brali udziału w powstawaniu scenariusza. Producent filmu, Lew Rywin, wyjaśnił na koferencji prasowej, że zobowiązania kontraktowe zmusiły go do umieszczenia w czołówce i Bracha, i Bondy'ego.

Był polskim kandydatem do Oscara 2004.
W czasie kręcenia zdjęć do filmu zmarł scenograf Andrzej Przedworski.
