I’ve been thinking about the issue of stability and consistence of the brothers.

Here’s why Damon offers emotional and physical security contrasted against Stefan’s actions.

1. Took an arrow in the back for Elena when Vanessa thought Elena was Katherine.

2. All it took was one phone call and he was off to Virginia where he found Elena in Slater’s apartment about to turn herself over to Klaus. He wasn’t going to let her do it and even threatened to break her arm if she stepped out from behind him to go off with the vampire goons.

3. He wouldn’t her allow to go into the tomb and become a midnight snack for Katherine.

4. Thinking Elena was still basically suicidal and would find another way to go off on a kamikaze mission, he elicited the cooperation of Jeremy and Bonnie to put a protection spell on the house so that Elena couldn’t get out.

5. Told Elena that he would “always choose” her when it came to saving a life.

6. Frantically ran down the list of possibilities for keeping Elena alive, the elixir was too unreliable as far as he was concerned, so he force fed her his blood.

7. Was going to lay her beside Stefan after the sacrifice, but Stefan wanted him to take her back to the witch house. He frantically prayed that she’d wake up human. It was Damon that Elena saw when she woke – not her boyfriend.

8. He didn’t want Elena to know about the bite because he didn’t want to have another grave to mourn.

9. Quietly tracked Stefan’s trail of bodies, but chose not to reveal it to Elena. He didn’t want to ruin her birthday.

10. Rushed to the mountains when he found that Elena was going to werewolf encampment on a full moon in search of Stefan, even though he would’ve been wolf bait.

11. Agreed that he’d help her bring Stefan home because he believed Stefan could be saved.

12. Was very thoughtful of her need to look pretty for Stefan when he reminded her that she was road trip grubby.

13. Took care of her by putting antibiotic/burn ointment on her face.

14. Rescued her from being Klaus’s human blood bag.

15. Showed her the way to kill a vampire and supported her in protecting herself.

16. Emotionally supported Elena when things started to fall apart with Jeremy.

17. Emotionally supported her when she started doubting herself when she daggered Rebekah.

18. Never pushed for more than what she was willing to give when he kissed her.

19. Tried to protect Elena from meeting with Esther. Got mad when she had Stefan help her. Told her that he was mad because he loves her.

20. Went with Elena to Denver to pick up Jeremy. (Awww, they acted so much like a family. Kinda funny hearing Damon say next time he compels Jeremy, he’ll be better at baseball. He wants his boy to be the best).



From the start, Stefan has never been really supportive of Elena – emotionally or physically.

1. Even in S1 he squashed her enthusiasm that she had fought back by downplaying it saying it was just an adrenalin rush and that she shouldn’t have to fight.

2. His problems with blood addiction overshadowed her big day as Miss Mystic Falls where Damon came to her rescue so that she wouldn’t be embarrassed.

3. He was suicidal and would’ve done so if Elena hadn’t found his ring.

4. His priorities aren’t straight. He got himself stuck in the tomb on a spur of the moment.

5. Shrugged when Elena said she’d just be dead.

6. Took up to the mountains or whatever the day of sacrifice rather encourage Elena to spend time with her family.

7. Verbally and physically abused Elena.
- she’s worthless and weak
- their relationship has been a waste of time
- called her a human blood bag
- kidnapped, fed her his blood while speeding down a road toward Wickery Bridge.
- left her stranded on a dark road

8. Had no problem letting her go into the lion’s den and went so far as get the obstacle (Damon) out of the way by snapping his neck.

9. Again, rather than save the woman he loves, he respected her decision to be left behind to drown so he could save Matt.

10. He downplayed the fact that Elena risked her life to save him from the house full of vampires. Didn’t thank her, nothing. Just expressed disappointment that she did.


So I ask everyone, who is more consistent and stable and why can’t Elena see it?
