Urodzony na Wyspie Guersney w roku 1923, Roy Dotricie, syn Louis'a oraz Neva'y Dotrice, został zmuszony do ucieczki na Wyspy Brytyjskie w roku 1940, kiedy na Wyspę Guersney napadli naziści. W 1942 roku, w wieku 16 lat, Roy zaciągnął się do RAF'u. Po wojnie, Roy rozpoczął swoją karierę aktorską i poznał aktorkę Kay Newman, z którą wkrótce się ożenił. W tym okresie Roy
