W oczekiwaniu na dalszy ciąg, trochę ciekawostek w jednej kupie na temat tego jak wyglądała praca nad scenariuszem "Breaking Bad", zwłaszcza w końcowej fazie.

Siedem osób pracowało nad zakończeniem serialu, a praca nad scenariuszem przypominała partię szachów. Scenarzyści stawiali sobie pytania: Jeśli wykonamy ruch jakąś postacią w jakimś kierunku, to co może się wydarzyć, jakie mogą być tego konsekwencje? Jakie są wszystkie możliwe zakończenia danego wątku i które z nich są najbardziej satysfakcjonujące, zarówno pod względem atrakcyjności filmowej, jak i moralnej słuszności. Gilligan powiedział, że chociaż chciał przede wszystkim stworzyć dobrą rozrywkę, to jednak taką, która zmusza do myślenia i która nie pozwoli zapomnieć o tym, co się widziało i przejść do porządku nad filmem po jego zakończeniu:

"I want the show to entertain. But I think part of entertainment is making people think. It's not a show designed primarily to make people think, but, as part of its entertainment mandate, people should be thinking afterwards. It should keep people wondering, it should keep people contemplating. I don't want to make the kind of entertainment where people instantly forget what they just watched as they tune into the next show."

Mówiąc o moralnym aspekcie historii ("the most morally correct way to end this thing") Gilligan wspomina, że był wychowywany w katolickiej rodzinie i podoba mu się idea, że dobro jest nagradzane:

"I was brought up Catholic, and I like the idea that if we do good we'll be rewarded for it. If we live our lives in a way that not only doesn't hurt others but helps others, if we don't go around being nasty to people, that good things will derive from that."

Powiedział także, że bardzo podoba mu się buddyjskie pojęcie karmy:

"I love the idea that assholes will get their day in court. You know, that people who make everyone's lives around them unpleasant will suffer the consequences. In other words, karma. The good stuff you put out there in the universe reflects back well on you, but bad stuff you pay for."

Zakończenie serialu nie było wcale jasne od początku. Twórca miał tylko ogólny zarys, w jakim kierunku będą rozwijać się postacie i ich pragnienia, ale szczegóły były często dopracowywane do ostatniej chwili:

"The best I can say is that I have hopes and dreams for the characters and desires as to where I want to see them at the end of it all. But as to how we get to those, I’m not quite sure. It may turn out that when my writers and I sit down to plot the last 16 episodes, we won’t not find a way to get everybody to the place that I want them to be at."

Moira Walley-Beckett, scenarzystka odcinka "Ozymandias" mówi, że w momencie wyznaczenia autora na ogół nie było wiadomo jeszcze, jak potoczy się fabuła. Wszystkie szczegóły były dogłębnie dyskutowane w grupie, poszczególne sceny były zaznaczane na kartach przypinanych do tablicy i dopiero potem dany autor był wyznaczony do napisania scenariusza. Wyznaczony scenarzysta najpierw pisał krótki "outline", a po otrzymaniu dodatkowych uwag miał około 10 dni na napisanie gotowego scenariusza. Zasadniczo każdy odcinek ma podobną strukturę (wypraktykowaną jeszcze przy "X-files"), czyli cold opening, oraz cztery akty fabuły.

Gilligan podkreśla, jakim szczęśliwym zrządzeniem losu była roczna przerwa w serialu, gdyż ten okres czasu pozwolił dopracować do perfekcji każdy szczegół i uwzględnić wszystkie fabularne możliwości:

"We knew how many more hours of story we had left to us. The other blessing was that we had time enough to think through every permutation possible -- rather, every permutation we could conceive of."

Ostatnie osiem odcinków było rozbierane podczas tworzenia na wszystkie możliwe czynniki pierwsze:

"We want these final eight episodes to be as close to perfect as we can humanly make them, and to that end we try to think through every possible permutation of story. We approach it the same way we always have. We say, "Where's Walt's head at right now? What does he want? What is he afraid of? What are his goals? What are his obstacles arrayed before him?" We do this – we go through the litany of characters. We go through the list and ask the same questions of all of them, and we want to give them all their due and we want to bring the show to as satisfying a conclusion as possible."

Fakt, że liczba ostatnich odcinków była z góry ustalona wytwarzał dodatkową presję. Była obawa, że można coś przeoczyć i po jakimś czasie odkryć, że można było zrobić coś lepiej:

"One of my fears this last solid year has been that I'd wake up months from now in a cold sweat and say, 'Oh my God, we forgot something!' Or, 'It should have been this! Why didn't we think of doing it this way?'"

Jednak po tym, jak dali z siebie wszystko ("we really bleed and sweat and cry over this show when we're making it") mają poczucie, że serial kończy się tak jak powinien:

"But I am really proud of these final eight. [...] There were many months where I was very concerned that the episodes wouldn’t satisfy – and I think they do. The show ends as it should."

Co się tyczy głównego bohatera, proces przemiany Waltera White'a zaskoczył nawet twórcę tej postaci:

"And I love the idea of changing Walt step by step. If you invented a time machine so I could go visit myself six years ago and show myself episodes of Breaking Bad, I’d be saying, 'I cannot believe this son of a gun got so dark as a character. I never saw him turning this evil.'"
